Organisers of the Royal Highland Show – Scotland’s showcase of food, farming and rural life – have embarked on a new initiative to fill, in part, the void left behind following the cancellation of the this year’s show.
The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) and OnFARM, Scotland’s rural podcast, have joined forces to produce a series of episodes celebrating the best of sector, including the work of RHASS and RHET, as well as highlighting the social and economic impact of the Royal Highland Show.
The series will also paint a portrait of rural Scotland’s resilience in the face of Covid-19 and illustrate the ways in which RHASS and the Royal Highland Show act as the ‘social glue’ for Scottish rural communities. To date, OnFARM podcasts have showcased rural enterprise, community, creativity, ingenuity, charity, history and more, and so they provide the ideal vehicle through which to tell some of the stories behind both the Royal Highland Show and RHASS. The series will allow show-goers to reminisce about some of the things they love most about the four-day event, as well as revealing insights on the impact and influence RHASS initiatives have had in shaping the sector throughout the generations. The first of the OnFARM episodes produced in association with the RHASS will be broadcast on Monday 11th May. However, as other episodes are still in production, RHASS and the OnFARM teams are asking regular show-goers and RHASS members to get in touch with their own memories, as well as suggestions as to what they would like to hear.Bill Gray, Chairman of RHASS, said:“Following the necessary, but hugely disappointing, decision to cancel the Royal Highland Show, our focus now is to look at how RHASS can continue to contribute to the success of the agricultural and rural sectors through our grants, awards and other charitable work.“It is also incredibly important to showcase some of the uplifting and positive stories, both business and social, which we know that the Royal Highland Show produces each year. Collaborating with the OnFARM podcast is one of the ways in which we can fill some of the gap left by the cancellation of our event this summer and give people an opportunity to engage with the event, even when it cannot take place.Anna Davies, Director of Scene & Herd PR and Marketing and founder of OnFARM, said:“OnFARM is all about telling real stories, and both RHASS and the Royal Highland Show are shaped by wonderful and inspiring people. These individuals, businesses and organisations will help us to offer an intimate look at Scotland’s award-winning agricultural show across our series of podcasts.“Those who visit the show, alongside RHASS members, all have special memories of their annual four days at Ingliston and we are calling on people to get in touch and tell us what they would like to hear over coming weeks. We’d love to hear from you, so please keep an eye on the social media channels for more information.”ENDSContact Judith O’Leary – 07825 304408 judith@representcomms.co.ukNotes to Editor
