Do you sometimes think you spend all your time being polite, kind and diplomatic? Yes, so do I!
In a world where we put so much effort into being polite, let’s give ourselves 20 minutes of indulgence and allow time for a rant and a moan. According to the American Heart Association, writing down your feelings, both negative as well as positive, can lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, improve sleep and lessen depression and pain.
I’ll start and I’d love to hear what you want to moan or vent about. It might be trivial or it might be more serious – either way, send me a reply. I may not be able to get back to every one of you but hopefully, just the act of writing it down will make you feel better!
Bananas – I love the taste but they annoy me so much. They are only ever at optimum ripeness for about 24 hours and so if you buy a whole bunch you only ever get the chance to eat one that is perfect!
Politicians – just answer the bl**dy question! Do you remember that Jeremy Paxman & Michael Howard clip from years ago? What it does for me is highlight that when any politician is so evasive, all they are doing is reducing their own credibility. If they gave a simple yes or no answer they’d have so much more respect in the long run.
Hippos – lions, tigers, crocodiles etc. etc. all want to eat humans so that they can feed themselves and their families. It’s nature and it’s natural. But hippos? They are vegetarian and yet they are grumpy enough to kill more humans than all other predators combined. My least favourite large animal!
Wind – this is probably my biggest irritant in life! Not the sort of wind that you are maybe thinking about (!) but the sort that batters my house and my garden. We live in a pretty exposed spot and so I feel that every day it’s blowing my horse buckets around, sending my washing to the other side of the pony paddock or messing up my hair. Irrational anger is the only way I can describe my feelings towards this weather system!
Crocs (the kind you wear, not the kind referred to above) – no, just no. They are wrong and nothing will ever change my opinion on that!
And here are a few from other members of team Scene & Herd:
The glorification of busy - have you noticed that some people always have time to tell you how busy they are?!
Litter - I could rant about this for hours but...it doesn't change anything so I get my litter-pickers and ‘be the change I want to see in the world’.
We all need a vent, or more specifically, someone we can vent to. I'm the vent for a very chatty person who talks at me non-stop for an hour before ending with "It was lovely to talk to you" and then I need to go and lie down for half an hour!
