Holehouse Goes the Whole Way

‍Holehouse Farm, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire was announced as the recipient of the coveted Scottish Dairy Farm of the Year award, at a special AgriScot presentation ceremony today (Wednesday 9th February).Farmed by the Logan family, Holehouse supports 280 pedigree Holstein cows in a new, modern dairy complex as part of a wider 1930Ha livestock operation. A significant percentage of the cows are red and white’s and the overall herd averages 10,300ltr per annum.

Worthy Winner's Skills Rewarded

Emily Mosley received a £1000 cheque as her prize for winning the AgriScot Business Skills competition on Wednesday 9th February.‍Emily, a Harper Adams graduate, originally from Derbyshire but now working as a Farm Administrator in Tain, saw off stiff competition from her fellow finalists: Ben McSporran a 3rd year BSc Agriculture student at SRUC Edinburgh and Stewart Shaw, a partner in his family farming and contracting business in the Scottish Borders and also a keen SAYFC member.

AgriScot Presentation Livestream

‍A special awards ceremony will be live-streamed to showcase the latest AgriScot crop of farms of the year and competition award winners.2021 saw a new award, Diversified Farm of the Year, join the AgriScot portfolio, and the inaugural presentation of this will take place alongside the awards for arable, beef, dairy and sheep farms of the year at the ceremony on 9th February. Also taking place on the day – which was to be the date of a full-scale AgriScot event, sadly cancelled due to Coronavirus – are the Business Skills Competition, the Silage Competition and the unveiling of the Product Innovation Award winner.

February AgriScot Cancelled

The Directors of AgriScot have described their huge disappointment following a Board meeting at which they took the decision to cancel the forthcoming farm business event.AgriScot was unable to take place on its usual mid-November calendar date due to the use of the venue at Ingliston as a Covid Vaccination Centre; a new date was therefore set to hold the event on 9th February 2022 instead. Now, new Covid restrictions, designed to combat the Omicron strain of the virus, mean that this February date is no longer possible.

Farming Finalists Emerge in AgriScot Competition

Three finalists have emerged from the recent qualifying heats of the AgriScot Business Skills Competition.Five competitors took part in the north regional heat and six in the south. These regional heats were held on-farm, with competitors quizzed by the host farmers and independent judges to assess their practical farming expertise and business knowledge.

£5000 of Silage Prizes, Enter Now, Freeze 'Til Feb

AgriScot will not take place on its usual mid-November date as one of the exhibition halls in which the event is staged, is in use as an NHS Covid vaccination centre. However, the RHASS have assured the AgriScot team that the farm business event will be able to utilise all exhibition halls at Ingliston on its rescheduled date of 9th February 2022, with the silage competition set to be a key attraction then.

AgriScot Skills Competition Open for Business

The date for AgriScot has been moved to 9 February 2022, however, the various farm of the year awards and competitions hosted at the event are now in full flow.The AgriScot Business Skills competition - designed to encourage young people aged 18-25 to develop their farm and business management skills – has now opened for entries.

Personal Development Opportunities For Women In Agriculture

An expansion of a personal development programme for women in agriculture has been launched this month, with participation commencing in October 2021.A new delivery team has been appointed to deliver the Scottish Government-funded ‘Be Your Best Self’ programme, whose membership includes experts in personal development facilitation, mental fitness coaching and agricultural expertise, to offer a creative and impactful experience for participants.

New Date for AgriScot

Plans for the forthcoming AgriScot are well underway, however, organisers have taken the unprecedented decision to move the farm business event from the original November date to 9 February 2022. Explaining the decision, which he stressed was not taken lightly, AgriScot Chairman Robert Neill stated:
